Gateshead Perambulation 2020

an image is not available
Once again Gateshead Local History Society will be celebrating the ancient practice of walking its boundaries. This leisurely paced history walk will consist of occasional stops to discuss and look at photographs. The Perambulations were created for the authorities to maintain control of their area, and would originally include in the party, men with shovels and axes who would knock down any houses and fences which had been built over the boundary. Although the walk is approximately 12 miles, for those who wish to undertake half the journey there will be a convenient leaving/joining point around 12 noon at The Coach House, Low Fell. We hope to arrive back at St Mary's around 3.30pm for some light refreshments. Please note there will be no car parking available at St Mary’s Heritage Centre. Meet at St Mary's Heritage Centre 9am for 9.15am start.
