The Spanish City

After almost 90 years of providing pleasure to millions, Whitley Bay’s legendary Spanish City fairground closed in 2000. Its surviving buildings were left to decay for another two decades until they were rescued and reopened in 2019. Describing its beginnings outside the North East of England, its reckless late-Victorian entrepreneur founder, its early development in Whitley Bay, and the creation of the famous revolutionary fairground entrance which has become known as the Spanish City Dome.
