The Tales of Beatrix Potter

an image is not available
Peter Rabbit and friends, Jeremy Fisher, Mrs Tiggywinkle are some of our most beloved childhood characters. Together they will appear on screen inside a starlit setting created just for this show. Once again we invite audiences young and old to experience a seasonal delight as we transform 900 years of Gateshead’s history into a film theatre and share with you the wonderful Lakeland world of Beatrix Potter. This year we are celebrating 150 years of her life and works and the knowledge that thousands of children have learnt to read with her superbly crafted stories of the creatures she observed and her unforgettable drawings. Her tales tell of adventure and calamity, of near misses and triumph. Directed by Dianne Jackson the animations in our showing are careful to capture the originality and joy of Beatrix Potter’s own drawings perfectly supported by the music of Colin Towns and introduced with cameo performances by Niamh Cusack. What a wonderful way to begin the Christmas Holidays by including the whole family in this joyful memory of childhoods past and present. Recapture some old favourite memories and introduce a new generation to the words and images of Beatrix Potter. If you would like a private early evening screening for a group, special occasion or birthday party please contact the heritage centre on 0191 433 4699 or email heritage@gateshead.gov.uk for costs and details.
